DPS May Appear Slightly Inflated

This Castle Never run was what I would call a “learning experience.” I’d run it before, but always ended up in groups that were much more experienced and geared, therefore allowing me to be carried.

Not this time.

Oh, clearly not this time.

I wasn’t a member of the original queued group. They were at least on the 2nd boss fight by the time I joined. By the end of it we’d wiped so many times on Orcus that I think none of the people who were in the group when I started were still there. None of the names in the above image were not present for the last few tries, having cut their losses and left.

Good News:

  • Apparently I enjoy doing “Rift Duty” on the Orcus fight, which is a good thing because I was often (not always) the only one doing it.
  • I’ve gotten much better at avoiding the green orbs of doom that sometimes spawn when Orcus casts Power Word: Kill.
  • Sticking around the longest gave me an over-inflated DPS score, as I stayed for more attempts than anyone else.

Bad News:

  • I really don’t want to do that again.

Marked Improvement, Room For More

I’ve been playing a lot of Neverwinter lately. The build I like to use on my Great Weapon Fighter is fun for solo play, but with a single exception I always ranked lowest for damage dealt when running a dungeon or skirmish. (I think that exception was for someone who dropped out of the group, actually… <_<)

In any case, I got tired of living on the bottom rung so I found a guide to help me out. Since Neverwinter added loadouts I can still switch between my “I know what I’m doing but damage isn’t it” and “I don’t know what I’m doing but things die faster now” builds.

My gear is still low, and I still frequently use muscle memory from the old powers I no longer have, but I’d like to think I’m not being carried any more. Or at least … not as much.

Hey, at this point I’ll gladly take outDPSing the healer and the tank as a win.

Bonus image: When I’m not tanking, I don’t mind being at the bottom of THIS meter:
